The Opportunity

With an 85-year history, Triangle Family Services has garnered the respect of the community for its proven track record of delivering data-driven programs and services- strengthening families facing crisis. This is a unique opportunity for a strong leader to step into a stable and healthy organization with solid strategic planning, a newly renovated and debt-free building, and strong funding relationships.

The CEO will serve as the primary external face of Triangle Family Services, building community partnerships, securing resources for TFS’s sustainability and growth, and engaging volunteer leadership. The CEO will also provide visionary and strategic leadership to all TFS’s operations and ensure financial stability, adherence to TFS’s mission and values, and the continued development of a positive, supportive culture.

Governed by an engaged 19-member Board of Directors, TFS’s next CEO will oversee a staff of 57 individuals comprised of both tenured and new team members ready to go to the next level. Supported by a leadership team that consists of a Chief Operating Officer, Chief Programs Officer, Chief Business Development Officer, and HR Director, the CEO is bolstered by a highly regarded programs team with longevity, stability, and bench strength. The CEO also has the benefit of a caring and well-connected Advisory Board.


The Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following professional and personal qualities, skills, and characteristics:

Mission-Focused

The CEO will be committed to TFS’s mission and exemplify its core values of integrity, honesty, respect, courage, diversity, and balance. The ideal candidate is purpose-driven and will demonstrate an understanding of the human services needs of the community and position the agency to best serve its clients while balancing organizational sustainability. The CEO will have a deep understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging and will actualize these principles across the organization.

Relationship Building

The CEO will have deep experience developing meaningful relationships and community partnerships that lead to funding and opportunities for collaboration and enhanced services. The ideal candidate will have experience working with state and local government entities, other service providers, and community influencers, and will demonstrate a history of inspiring staff and board-level volunteers. The CEO will be a good listener and strong communicator who is able to work effectively with diverse groups and inspire others to rally around TFS’s mission.

Resource Development

TFS has the potential to significantly increase revenue in the next few years, so the ideal candidate will have a history of growing organizations. The CEO should be able to demonstrate a track record of resource development from diversified funding sources such as individuals, companies, foundations, government contracts, and earned income.

Strong Business Acumen

The CEO will have experience managing all facets of a multi-million-dollar service-oriented agency and a solid understanding of the financial complexities and regulatory necessities of an organization that operates with government funding, earned income, and private donations. The ideal candidate will have experience building a team, establishing and enforcing accountability, effectively allocating resources, and delegating day-to-day activities. The CEO will possess a high degree of emotional intelligence, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and an aptitude for solving complex problems and making decisions.

Strategic Leadership

The CEO will be driven to ensure that TFS remains as the community’s safety net for families while also charting a course to take the agency to the next level. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a solid grasp of factors impacting the human services landscape, staying abreast of community needs and opportunities and working with the board to develop a vision for the future of the agency and how it should adapt while still maintaining mission focus.


Additional Preferred Attributes

The ideal CEO applicant will enhance their candidacy by demonstrating preferred skills, experience, and attributes that include:

  • Experience in a nonprofit management, community health, or other human services executive leadership role
  • Understanding of the implications of Medicaid expansion/transformation
  • Compassion for and experience with those who have experienced trauma and/or homelessness
  • Empathy for those providing direct services and an understanding of the toll it can take
  • Understanding of the government and philanthropic landscapes of the Triangle area
  • Previous experience at an accredited agency

Since 1937 Triangle Family Services (TFS) has served as the place to turn for innovative solutions for families facing crisis. TFS is a community leader in strengthening families through its three core program areas: Family Safety, Financial Stability and Mental Health. TFS’s 12 community response programs and services — all under one roof — are designed to work synergistically, providing over 2,000 clients per year with solutions tailored to their unique situation. TFS programs save the community millions of dollars annually by keeping people out of the emergency room, out of jail, and preventing families from becoming unsheltered. In fiscal year 2021-22 alone, TFS saved the community $125 million.

Salary is commensurate with the requirements of the position and is in the $150K range.
