Vice President (VP) of Resource Development

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Vice President (VP) of Resource Development is responsible for all fundraising and resource development activities. The successful candidate will design and implement a multifaceted development strategy and stewardship operation to inspire philanthropic support.

The VP of Resource Development serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the organization. The position will focus on expanding current and forging new relationships to build Habitat NYC and Westchester’s visibility, impact, and financial resources.
The VP of Resource Development must be an inspirational leader and innovator who possesses the vision, passion and expertise to help the organization grow its revenue opportunities from a variety of philanthropic sources by motivating current and prospective supporters of the organization to consider significant investments to sustain and expand Habitat’s mission.
A key focus will be to secure funding for the recent expansion of the organization’s presence and programmatic activity into Westchester County, New York. The VP of Resource Development will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by identifying, cultivating and stewarding individual, corporate, foundation and faith-based supporters.
The position leads a productive, powerful and cohesive team of dedicated fundraisers and is responsible for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to reach a $5M philanthropic goal. Sustained success will drive appropriate investment in additional capacity to support geographic growth.
The new leader will support and expand initiatives to further diversify the donor base/pipeline and work closely with team members and colleagues to secure new funding sources for a growing suite of new programs and initiatives. Importantly, this position works closely with a complex governance structure of Boards (NYC Habitat, Westchester County Habitat, the regional entity, Habitat for Humanity NYC & Westchester County and the Habitat NYC Community Fund (CDFI)) as well as the organization’s leadership groups (Real Estate Council, Habitat Young Professionals, and the Leadership Council) to raise funding through their personal wealth and circles of influence.

Key Responsibilities:
Create and implement multi-year strategies and campaigns, including those for special events, direct marketing, planned giving and major donor programs to promote a diverse and sustainable funding base for Habitat NYC & Westchester.
Cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of highly engaged individual donors and ambassadors as well as a portfolio of other institutional prospects to support Habitat NYC and Westchester’s ambitious fundraising goals.
Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives.
Design a moves management process to fully engage current and prospective donors in Habitat NYC’s mission.
Develop and implement a structured stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors.
Develop the department’s annual fundraising budget and monthly forecasts; provide timely reports to the CEO and from time to time, report on progress made to date on goals and outcomes to Board of Directors.
With CEO, align resource development priorities with organizational strategic priorities. Ensure proper resource mobilization and allocation to ensure the organization achieves its s immediate fundraising targets as well as long term goals.
Responsible for the general supervision, hiring and development of the department’s staff including the establishment of departmental goals; monitor staffing and scheduling needs; effectively coach and counsel subordinates; accurately monitor the performance standards of each staff member and evaluate team members on promoting cooperative, productive behavior.
Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop and implement sponsorship and marketing collateral for fundraising events and campaigns.
Support the involvement of the CEO and other members of the leadership team in and relationship building and management.
Monitor all donor information;
Provide and present statistical analysis around fundraising initiatives and progress towards goals to board and senior leaders;
Maintain a solid understanding of Habitat NYC and Westchester’s mission, strategies, culture, values, history, programs and initiatives, and stay abreast of fundraising trends.

10+ years of professional fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization; and/or demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging business relationships), preferably in New York City.
Demonstrated success in working with diverse funders to expand, cultivate and further relationships that motivate donors to become investors in an organization’s vision and future success.
Excellent communications skills, both written and oral; skilled at persuasive communications, with the ability to engage, influence and inspire long-term organizational investments.
Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.
Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but in concert with a close cohort of colleagues at varying levels of seniority both inside and outside of the organization.
Bachelor’s degree required; ongoing education, training in philanthropic sector preferred; Masters highly valued.
Ability to articulate, construct and implement an annual strategic development plan and report progress towards goal.
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
A professional and resourceful style with a defined ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Accomplished and proven staff supervisor with an inclusive management style; able to attract, lead, and develop staff members.
Demonstrated ability to be a creative and resourceful problem solver; able to balance tension between partner expectations and organizational capabilities, strategies and results.
Demonstrated ability and desire to think strategically and execute efficiently and effectively.
Advanced computer skills (Raiser’s Edge Certified preferred) and expertise in Microsoft Office (Word; Excel; Power Point; Outlook).
Passion for the vision and mission of Habitat NYC and Westchester. Strong interest in the issue of affordable housing.

Compensation: $120,000-$140,000
