Summary:

The Director of Research Grants and Contracts Administration, reporting to the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute (ACRI) Chief Operating Officer, oversees processes, leads strategic planning, and develops strategic initiatives for research grants and contracts administration and scientific communications. The Director is the principal administrator for the organization’s externally funded research grants and contracts and serves as the primary contact and advisor between ACRI and external funding officers. The Director plays a key role in visioning, positioning and differentiating ACRI among pediatric research organizations and ensures a positive and cohesive employee and public image through comprehensive communications strategies. The Director manages the organization’s centralized grant proposal development and communications teams and oversees administration of ACRI’s intramural grant programs.

Description
1. Responsible for the overall direction and effective management of ACRI's centralized grant proposal development staff including hiring, training, supporting, developing and supervising personnel.
2. Ensures staff members are adequately trained to efficiently and correctly respond to inquiries, primarily posed by ACRI investigators, regarding grant proposal preparation.

3. Evaluates workloads and prioritizes the work for the grant proposal development and research communications staff.

4. Fosters relationships with sponsored programs officials, administrators at collaborating organizations, and ACRI research scientists and administrators to ensure.

5. Leads planning initiatives relating to immediate, annual and long-term strategic objectives for the grant and contract administration.

6. Ensures that budgets are created, proposed and administered in a fiscally responsible manner.

7. Reviews policies and operating procedures and recommends and implements policy and procedural changes to enhance research grants and contracts administration.

8. Serves as a resource for ACRI investigators and leaders ensuring that they have the information needed to effectively and compliantly obtain and manage grants and contracts. Oversees intramural grant program.

9. Provides creative, strategic leadership in administration of research grants and/or contracts, expertly balancing customer service and compliance needs.

10. Serves as the primary liaison between the organization and funding agencies to ensure all interests are represented and protected.

11. Provides grants management expertise for the organization regarding 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) in relation to administration of federal awards.
12. Provides training and support to faculty and administrators regarding sponsor requirements.
13. Prepares and submits documents and reports to sponsors required during the life of an award.
14. Oversees monitoring of ACRI’s compliance with the National Institutes of Health Public Access Policy and resolution of noncompliance to avoid loss of Federal funding.
15. Reviews and submits all proposals on behalf of ACRI.
16. Ensures that budgets are created, proposed and administered in a fiscally responsible manner.
17. Seeks ways to improve and enhance service delivery.
18. Oversees the production and/or distribution of research communications to both internal and external audiences.
19. Facilitates communication of research findings and other research efforts between the Institute and lay public or scientific audiences.
20. Oversees management of research-related websites and web-based communications.
21. Ensures that all research-related communications adhere to established Arkansas Children’s brand guidelines.
22. Directs and manages the organization’s communications and scientific/medical writing staff.
23. Supports writing of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals and monitors publication output and trends among ACRI researchers.
24. Performs other duties as assigned.
