Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill a full-time research technician position in Dr. Birgit Knoechel’s laboratory at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We are a translational leukemia and lymphoma research laboratory that uses modern next generation sequencing technologies to identify new therapeutic targets and test novel therapeutics both in vitro and in vivo. The research technician would work on projects studying mechanisms of malignant transformation of lymphocytes, targeting lymphoma and leukemia cell genetic and pharmacologic vulnerabilities, and mechanisms of resistance to clinical and pre-clinical lymphoma and leukemia therapies using patient-derived xenografts of hematological malignancies in immunocompromised mice.
Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate would be a technician who could straddle both the realms of mouse work as well as wet lab experiments. The position will be directly involved with our in vivo studies and will require proficiency handling mice and harvesting tissue samples. This person would also be responsible for injecting tumor samples (IV, SQ), monitoring mice for disease engraftment, bleeding mice, multi-color flow cytometry, preparing and dosing therapeutic agents (IV, IP, oral gavage), and data analysis and recording results. Additional work may include but is not limited to bench techniques such as magnetic selection of tumor populations, nucleic acid extraction, and preparation of samples for sequencing. The candidate is also expected to take on tasks to maintain the lab operation including but not limited to ordering, equipment maintenance, scheduling of required repairs, negotiations with vendors for new equipment purchases and maintaining laboratory inventories and standard operating procedures. Previous experience in the above techniques is preferred, but on-the-job training can be provided. The candidate must be motivated to learn additional mouse techniques and should have meticulous record keeping skills.
We are looking for candidates who have at least two years of availability.
