Aquatics Director (Collierville)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position was developed to oversee all aquatics activities at the YMCA, including general aquatics operations, lifeguarding, maintaining a safe swimming condition, and pool operations. The position will extend the Y’s mission by creating a positive atmosphere where everyone is respected and welcomed and builds relationships with team members and members alike.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General Operations

  • Manages a team of aquatics personnel. Schedules, monitors, and approves time for all team members.
  • Schedule, conduct, and document training to ensure all team members’ training certifications are up to date. Training needs include, but are not limited to, Ellis training, CPR, and First-Aid.
  • Develops and monitors annual Aquatics department revenue and expense budget to meet center fiscal objectives. Accountable for all aquatics department financial results.
  • Maintains the highest standards in pool safety and is in full compliance with the association and Ellis standards and guidelines at all times.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, Ellis & Associates, ADA guidelines, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities, Annual Campaigns, and special events as needed.

Lifeguard

  • Responsible for all lifeguard shift scheduling and filling lifeguard shifts as necessary.
  • Responsible for training and recertifying current and potential lifeguards.
  • Oversees lifeguards while on deck, coaching the team when necessary.

Pool operations

  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Responsible for fixing basic pool maintenance issues.
  • Track and oversee the completion of daily chemical logs.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a current lifeguard, CPR/AED, O2, and First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Agrees to possess a Certified Pool Operation (CPO) and Ellis & Associate Lifeguard certification within three months of employment.
  • At least two years of experience in instruction and management of a wide variety of Aquatics programs and pool maintenance.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations, and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries. Proficient in swimming and safety skills. Must be willing to learn all the YMCA does to impact our community.
  • Ability to work significant evening and weekend shifts required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Work schedules may vary per the Y’s hours of operation. Most Y’s are open 7 days a week:

Mon. – Fri. 5:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Sat. 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sun. 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The schedule for this full-time position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm, though overtime, evenings, and weekend work may be required depending on the business need.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to see the close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally.
  • Climbing pool equipment, including a 10 ft. ladder.
  • Works outside in 80-90+ degree temperatures for a maximum of 20-60 minutes at a time several times during a shift.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position which includes walking, standing, bending, reaching frequently, as well as correctly demonstrating the proper form of exercises.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36,000.00 - $39,000.00 per year
