Overview of Last Mile Education Fund

The Last Mile Education Fundinvests in the next generation of technology talent. We offer a disruptive approach to increasing diversity in tech and engineering fields by addressing critical gaps in financial support for college students facing obstacles to graduation. We disrupt the traditional scholarship model by investing in students based on our four pillars: Agility, Abundance, Investment Mindset, and Creating a Virtuous Circle. Our model was built with research in mind, as we intend for the dataset from Last Mile to be used for field-building and field-changing research. Our ultimate goal is to utilize our data analysis and evaluation outcomes to change the behavior of ecosystem players to close the gap that Last Mile currently fills. Last Mile is a rapidly scaling organization that is adding capacity to its student grantmaking operation.

Position Overview

Last Mile Education Fund has partnered with several organizations to distribute funds to qualified post-secondary students across the United States. The Student Grantmaking Specialist will be responsible for owning the entire process of distribution from application to grant awards.

The Student Grantmaking Specialist will report directly to the Student Grant & Special Projects Manager. This position has geographic flexibility and can be performed remotely. The Last Mile team is fully remote and geographically dispersed currently between California, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Texas, and Washington. Travel is required quarterly to participate in team-wide convenings and operational meetings.

Education and Experience Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma with additional experience will be considered.

· Minimum five years of experience in higher education financial aid, scholarship administration, or general higher education administration.

? Tech savvy with the ability to work in various platforms (Microsoft, CRM, etc.).

? A commitment to accuracy and a keen attention to detail.

? Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with anyone.

? Ability to work in a fast-paced, growing environment and adapt to changing priorities.

? Executes a defined process repeatedly and accurately and contributes to process improvement initiatives.

? Maintains documentation of detailed processes and decision-making criteria.

? Works independently and with mature judgement to select students for funding and asks for assistance at appropriate times.

? Must align with the Last Mile mission and its values of equity, ethics, human-centric, belonging, abundance, agility, and a radical approach.

? Ideal experience includes application review in post-secondary education including admissions, financial aid, etc.

Role and Responsibilities

? Application Review. Review grant applications that are submitted via Asana and other student grantmaking platforms. Make final award decisions based on specified eligibility criteria. Update grantmaking platforms to reflect application status, additional application data and award decisions.

? Communication. Notify both declined and approved applicants via email or other communications platforms (text, etc.). Respond to incoming applicant inquiries. Follow-up with document requests when additional information is needed.

? Interviews. Schedule, document, and perform interviews with applicants, as specified by Last Mile’s grantmaking policies.

? Grant Processing. Manage Last Mile’s legal agreements platform (DocuSign or other), IRS Form W9 platform, and sync with student grantmaking application processing platform to ensure non-profit compliance guidelines are met.

? Data Management. Keep accurate data on all activities and all applicants using Asana or other student grantmaking platform. Provide trends and updates to the Student Grants Manager and Chief of Strategy and Operations to inform fundraising, marketing, engagement, partnerships, and brand messaging.

? Technology & Reporting. Utilize Last Mile’s technology platforms daily to process applications, organize and prioritize daily tasks, and report on activity and milestones, as appropriate.

? Documentation. Maintain detailed documentation of student grantmaking process, based on Last Mile policies, practices and technology platforms.

? Team Collaboration and Continuous Improvement. Collaborate with other members of the Last Mile team on a daily and weekly basis to accomplish common goals. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enable Last Mile to continue to scale through both process improvements and technology enhancements.

? Backup to Student Grants Manager. Serve as backup to the Student Grants Manager, as appropriate.

? Confidentiality. Treat all information about applicants, grantees, volunteers, and alumni as confidential, complying with Last Mile’s privacy policies and industry best practices.

Compensation & Benefits

The Student Grantmaking Specialist salary ranges from $55,000 to $60,000 commensurate with experience and education. As a member of our team, you will receive a competitive salary and an outstanding benefits package including:
