Development Director

General Statement of Function

MCEDSV is dedicated to the empowerment of all the state’s survivors of domestic, human trafficking and sexual violence. Our mission is to develop and promote efforts aimed at the elimination of all domestic and sexual violence in Michigan. MCEDSV is a Coalition of 73-member agencies of domestic violence and sexual assault service providers across the State of
Michigan. MCEDSV does legislative and legal advocacy, training, prevention and statewide crisis lines. MCEDSV believes that all services to survivors must be survivor centered, intersectional and trauma informed.

Working under the supervision of the Executive team, Development
Director’s primary area of responsibility is the creation of an overall development plan for the agency. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing all development activities related to securing the funding needed for annual operational costs, endowment, and special projects.
Major areas of responsibility include social media, marketing, sponsorship as well as donor cultivation of major gifts, corporations, foundations and individual donors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a fund development and marketing plan with short term and long-term goals.
  • Take responsibility for seeking out opportunities and working with the agency.
  • Understand the work of the Coalition and assist in development of materials that can be used for both raising the agency’s profile as well as fund development.
  • Research, analyze and recommend funding opportunities to implement the Fundraising Plan for the agency.
  • Identify and assist in generating new sources of funding.
  • Manage development expense budget.
  • Identify, engage, retain, and cultivate current and prospective donors.
  • Ability and willingness to start a development program.
  • Provide creative oversight when it comes to events management.
  • Evaluate and implement formal policies and procedures regarding donor gifts.
  • Ensure that the donor database is up-to-date and accurate and that the acknowledgement program is timely.
  • Evaluate and supervise Development team.
  • Represent or speak on MCEDSV’s behalf at community events and activities.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Ability, Experience Requirements

The individual filling this position should have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, business or social services field and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a non-profit or development setting or equivalent experience. Must understand core tenants of survivor centered, intersectional and trauma informed service delivery. Must be committed to ending domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Success in establishing and directing fund raising opportunities for non-profit organizations.
  • The ability to interact professionally and easily with donors, volunteers, staff, the public and a commitment to intersectionality.
  • Knowledge of domestic abuse and the ability to express compassion for the issue of domestic abuse.

Other qualifications include:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Social media fund development ideas and marketing proficiency.
  • Proven fund development experience.
  • Initiative to hit the ground running.

Other Requirements:

She/he/they must provide own transportation and automobile insurance and have the ability to travel throughout the State; must be willing to work non- traditional hours if necessary. This position may be based out of Okemos or Detroit.

Salary

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
