Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF) was founded here on Maui in 1980 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the world’s whales from extinction. PWF solely owns a social enterprise that offers fee-based community programs and services through PacWhale Eco-Adventures to help support its nonprofit work. Combined with memberships, donations, grants, and a remarkable group of dedicated volunteers, PWF now reaches more than 400,000 individuals each year through both our Maui and Australia offices and our research projects in Ecuador and Chile.
We are seeking a Culture & Equity Director to join our leadership team. This is a new position driven by our commitment to furthering Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) within our organization and externally with our supporters, partners, and within the communities we serve. This position reports to the Human Resources Director with a dotted line to the Executive Director/CEO.
The Culture & Equity Director is responsible for leading the development of new policies, processes, practices, and initiatives that will build, sustain, and further our Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) work. This position will own and drive Pacific Whale Foundation’s JEDI strategy and related strategic priorities, centering community-building, equity, diversity, and inclusion in order to empower all staff to contribute effectively and meaningfully. The Culture & Equity Director works closely with internal and external stakeholders to move the JEDI strategy forward.
Our ideal candidate has formal education and/or work experience that combines for a total of at least six years and involves the development, implementation, and management of DEI programs; experience implementing successful organizational transformation activities; strong connection to the local community and understanding of Hawai’i’s demographics and history; and a demonstrated ability to assess staff and organizational development needs and implement effective training solutions.
The salary range is $93,000 - $129,000/yr. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position based at our headquarters in Ma’alaea Harbor. This is a hybrid position, allowing flexibility to work from home and in the office. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
