Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association is a non-profit 501(c)3 community-based organization with strong ties to the Detroit community and national networks. BMBFA’s mission is to reduce racial inequities in breastfeeding support for Black families. BMBFA optimizes the first food experience through direct service, training and advocacy.

About the Role
Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA) is seeking a proven professional for their Public
Relations Manager who is willing to commit to the organization for the long-term. In this role, you will:
(i) meaningfully contribute to the reduction of racial disparities in breastfeeding and maternal child health outcomes for Black families; (ii) help advance an organization that provides their communities with the education, resources, and support to make impactful change; (iii) be supported by administration and program staff; and, (iv) in alignment with BMBFA’s mission, the public relations manager is responsible for embodying the voice of BMBFA to coordinate, manage and execute all communications and marketing plans and activities.

Essential Job Performance Duties/Objectives
● Develop and implement publicity strategies for the company’s products, services and events
● Content development and management
● Manage the Google Marketing Platform
● Manage social media marketing
● Garner earned media through traditional media opportunities
● Establish consistent communications outreach to current/potential new donors (Giving Tuesday, donor appeal, annual report, fundraisers, etc.)
● Manage website content (calendar, news, blogs, updates)
● And all other duties as assigned by the administration

● The ideal candidate is expected to build positive working relationships with all internal personnel, stakeholders, media and program participants utilizing exceptional communication skills. They will speak, listen, present, and write in a clear, thoughtful, thorough, and timely manner, tailoring communication style and messaging as appropriate for the audience.

● The ideal candidate is a consummate professional, fostering teamwork by working cooperatively and effectively with others.

● The ideal candidate must be adept at learning new software, programs, and able to adapt to new technology.

● The ideal candidate is highly organized and self-motivated, able to take direction, and work autonomously and in team settings

Education and Experience
● 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as a public relations manager or equivalent
● Minimum bachelor's degree; relevant areas (health communications, media, public relations, film, communications or similar)
● Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Professional Certificate or equivalent experience
● Experience in the maternal-child-health field; preferred emphasis on breastfeeding
● Strong and deep understanding of the principles of racial equity/justice
● Strong and deep understanding of community-centered approach
● Experience using social media platforms for social change; LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and

● Experience with paid social media marketing analytic tools
● Experience using Google Workspace or Google Drive, Canva, Monday.com, JotForm, Zapier,

DocuSign, Tovuti, WordPress, Zoom, ClickSend and Constant Contact; OR similar software/programs

● Must have strong and engaging oral, writing and interpersonal communication skills

Lived Experience (Preferred)
● Breastfeeding / breast pumping experience
● Intimate connection to the Detroit community

● $58,000 - $60,000
