Required Experience: Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or related field or equivalent (eight years) work experience. In addition to education or education equivalent, requires work experience in marketing and communications, including professional writing experience; 3-5 years.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

Travel: Up to 30% of time both in development and fragile contexts.

Salary Range: $57,500 - $87,400. Please note the typical hiring range is $59,000 - $72,000 annually. Job offers within the range are based on relevant job qualifications and pay equity. This range applies to locations with a market similar to our Washington D.C. office. A different range may apply based on your work location.


 

The Job:

World Vision is looking for a Writer II known as the Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist to Produce and lead the dissemination of communication products that promote gains and lessons from the implementation of humanitarian, resilience, and development programs for the SPIR II program in Ethiopia. The program aims to address the pervasive issues of food and nutrition insecurity in Ethiopia's Amhara and Oromia regions and is being implemented by a consortium of organizations headed by World Vision and including CARE, IFPRI, and ORDA.

Consistent with World Vision’s priority of communicating impact, and USAID’s strong desire to increase the visibility of the impact of its funded programs within the development community and among US policymakers, the Writer II will be charged with effectively communication program impact and disseminating knowledge products as documented in the program’s communication strategy. The Writer II will also ensure that communication materials support the mission of World Vision and adhere to corporate messaging and branding standards. Help carry out our Christian organization’s mission, vision, and strategies. Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, devotions, chapel, prayer, worship); incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within scope of role.
  • Create, write and disseminate promotional materials, achieving the highest level of quality consistent with corporate identity, donor requirements and brand message and industry standards.
  • Actively participate in SPIR II’s meetings and external engagement functions (Knowledge Management meetings, CLA/SEEP conferences etc.), develop and oversee the programs Knowledge Management and communications strategy and propose solutions that meet and exceed program needs and expectations.
  • Consult with other writing staff and clients to ensure clarity and consistency of final product.
  • Provide conceptual and technical advice to Senior Technical Advisor, CLA Lead, Research Specialist etc to ensure high quality final products.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and trends critical to writing and publicity techniques.
  • Manage projects assigned by supervisor, ensuring that needed information is identified, meetings are scheduled, resource is gathered, deadlines are met, and client is kept apprised of any changes in project status.
  • Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as part of a team.
  • Copyedit and proofread department projects.
  • Keep apprised of global events, partnership issues, international development, food security space that affect program content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or related field or equivalent (eight years) work experience.
  • In addition to education or education equivalent, requires work experience in marketing and communications, including professional writing experience; 3-5 years.

Salary Range & Benefits:

  • WVUS Pay Grade Level: 222
  • The full range for this position is $57,500 - $87,400.
  • Please note the typical hiring range is $59,000 - $72,000 annually.
  • This range applies to locations with a market similar to our Washington D.C. office. A different range may apply based on your work location.
