ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: The Regulatory Compliance Analyst advises the AVP for Research and the chairs of IRB and IACUC on the effectiveness of the university's compliance programs for research involving vertebrate animals and human subjects, provides staff support to both committees, manages all components of the review and reporting process of applications submitted to conduct research and teaching projects with the same, and ensures compliance with animal-care and human participants regulations in the interest of the University.


 

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):


 

Serve as subject matter and compliance expert for the Human Subjects Protections Program (HSPP) and animal welfare program (IACUC). Responsibilities include:

  • Processing protocols and conducting administrative reviews of protocols prior to the committee reviews.
  • Assuring compliance through developing, maintaining, revising, and implementing policies, procedures, schedules, and forms to manage the programs.
  • Providing administrative assistance to the IRB and IACUC.
  • Guiding faculty, staff and students in preparation of their IACUC and IRB protocols for review and approvals.
  • Maintaining IACUC and IRB protocol databases.
  • Tracking and enabling annual reviews, site visits, etc., of approved research and teaching protocols.
  • Drafting reports to federal regulatory agencies relating to IACUC and IRB issues.
  • Handling matters of a sensitive or legal nature in confidence and with professionalism.

 

Maintain knowledge of policies and regulations from federal agencies such as:

  • Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW)
  • Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP)
  • US Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • This may require attending educational meetings, conferences, and training to remain abreast of laws and regulations impacting research compliance. Keeps professional relationships with such entitles and compiles and submits to them required reports.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs, such as workshops, webinars, classroom presentations, etc., for the campus community about animal and human subject research and teaching and other research compliance issues.
  • For Export Controls conduct visual compliance screening for individuals, search other federal databases for restricted technologies and countries barred.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two (2) years of experience in research compliance, legal field or similar.
  • Extensive knowledge of research compliance regulations governing human subjects research and vertebrate animals in research and teaching.
  • Strong presentation skills using Power Point and other multimedia means;
  • Interest and willingness to gain additional knowledge in the job-related areas.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) and job-related search engines.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field;
  • Three (3) years' experience in research compliance, legal field or similar.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) Certification, Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) Certification.
  • Knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of the language and culture of the research community and the structure, requirements and expectation of the relevant federal agencies.
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written), excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to use judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Understanding of the application of new technology to the processes related to the job duties.
  • Effective use of tact and diplomacy in handling business affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities, to multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to deal with issues in high volume, interdisciplinary setting.
  • High degree of analytical accuracy, initiative, judgment, and the ability to work both within a team and independently.
