The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is looking for a motivated professional to fill the role of Associate Manager, Editorial & Production, for its professional publications. ADA’s professional publications include the most influential titles devoted exclusively to diabetes research, treatment, and education.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Books Publishing, the Associate Manager of Editorial & Production works closely with ADA’s Professional Publications team on many key tasks related to the print and digital publishing of ADA books, monographs, journals, and custom content. These tasks include reviewing manuscripts and proofs to ensure specific quality-control standards are met; collaborating with internal staff to organize the review of ADA books and monographs; tracking production workflows for ADA books, journals and custom publications; managing and updating web portals devoted to ADA’s professional publications; and creating marketing collateral and contributing to marketing campaigns. The Associate Manager, Editorial & Production, will play in a key role in transitioning select ADA publications to digital-first workflows and formats.
The ideal candidate must be experienced with print and online publishing workflows, have strong organizational and writing skills, and a keen attention to detail. This is a fully remote position, and the candidate must be comfortable working independently in a virtual team environment.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

  • Work with the project managers and managing editor to develop quality books and monographs that adhere to ADA standards and are factually, stylistically, and grammatically correct
  • Work with the ADA Editorial Office and/or internal Science & Health Care partners to coordinate the review of books, monographs, and custom publications
  • Work with ADA production staff to transition traditional print products to digital-first workflows and formats
  • Coordinate with authors, reviewers, editors, and publications staff to track the production workflows for professional books, journals, monographs, and custom publications, including online-only content
  • Manage, update, and track analytics of ADA’s professional news site and online professional publications
  • Coordinate with social media and marketing teams to coordinate online publishing to coincide with ADA media efforts, press releases, meeting presentations; design marketing collateral and to promote new professional publications
  • Assist with journals-related social media efforts; work with editorial and marketing staff on Facebook and Twitter campaigns
  • Process copyright registration for professional publications, and manage and assign ISBNs and order numbers to book titles
  • Assist with editorial development (e.g., fact-checking and research, manuscript preparation, proofreading and copyediting), where needed
  • Perform various administrative duties, such as organizing and archiving digital and hardcopy files and processing invoices, requisitions and copyright registration
  • Keep informed of current and new technologies related to scholarly publishing
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 


QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field
  • 3+ years of publishing experience preferred
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple long-term projects simultaneously and meet deadlines both independently and within team settings
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style (or comparable style guides)
  • Proficient with word-processing software, spreadsheets, and databases, especially Microsoft Word
  • Proficient in design software, primarily Adobe CC and font management applications

Compensation Range: $41K- $46.6K DOE
