Our Client, A well-established non-profit behavioral health service provider with a heart for its mission, community partnerships, and unique approaches to caring for children, adults, and families seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will be responsible for maintaining the organization’s mission and values and helping to execute their goals and objectives to drive operational excellence with other Executive team members and the Board of Directors (BOD). This position will report directly to the Board of Directors.

Job Summary:

The Chief Executive Officer, under the direction of the Board of Directors, provides the highest level of agency leadership. This position, in collaboration with its executive leadership team, ensures fiscal responsibility, leads strategic planning, sets the agency’s goals and helps ensure proper execution, ensures the growth, sustainability, and continuous quality improvement of the agency, oversees programs and services, is visible, and represents the agency in accordance with its values and mission. The CEO organizes and plans effectively, develops organization leadership, delegates responsibly, analyzes data and situations to inform appropriate decisions, solves problems effectively to manage risks, and communicates clearly both orally and in writing within all levels of the organization.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary voice and representative of the client to the public and enhances the agency’s image through strong public relations (including social media) and attendance at meetings and events, as well as through strategic partnerships with other professional, civic, and private organizations.
  • Leads strategic planning efforts and sets goals and priorities for the agency that guide the work of all employees and ties to the agency’s mission.
  • Establishes goals for each department and program in partnership with executive and senior management.
  • Communicates regularly with the Board of Directors and all Board committees and provides members with all required information in a timely manner, including but not limited to the proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements.
  • Partners with the Chief Operating Officer on high-level strategy to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the agency and to implement various plans established by the CEO and other executive leaders.
  • Works with the Chief Financial Officer to prepare the annual budget, review monthly financial statements, make fiscally responsible decisions, analyze the financial health of the agency and make corrective actions, when necessary, strategize on long-term growth and sustainability, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Program Officer to ensure that the agency’s existing programs are well-resourced and functioning at a high level of quality, identify any areas for improvement, develop new programs and services in alignment with the strategic plan, etc.
  • Works with the Director of Development to set development goals and design an annual plan that guides the work of the CEO and Development team in regard to identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community organizations.
  • Supports continuous quality improvement efforts recommended by the Director of Quality Improvement & Assurance and ensures that resources are allocated when needed for compliance with various licensures and CARF standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested by the Board of Directors.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit management, including high level executive, programmatic, and/or management level or equivalent experience
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to handle internal and external conflicts and mitigate risk to the agency.
  • Excellent time management/organization skills.
  • Sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills.
  • Experience with strategic planning and high-level project management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to present feasible solutions to challenges.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations.
  • Ability to develop strategic partnerships in the community.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Strong technological/computer skills (must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office 365).
  • Comfortable with technology like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to be a team player and work with diverse populations.

Education Requirement: Bachelors required. Master’s preferred, especially in social/human services, nonprofit management, public policy/administration, business management.

Physical/Environmental Demands: Sedentary/Light, regional travel by car expected, valid driver’s license and insurability required.

Compensation & Benefits: This position is a critical position for the future success and growth of the organization. The position provides compensation commensurate with experience and comprehensive benefits, including, but not limited to, health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off. For the right candidate, they may be the opportunity for providing some relocation reimbursement.

This role will also be provided a company vehicle as regional travel will be required.
