Title: Human Trafficking Specialist
$61,526.40 – $91,832 / Posted Thru: 1-7-24

 

 
Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live in Michigan - Occasional In-Person Meetings Required

 

 
Purpose: This position will work under the direction of the Human Trafficking Project Director to support the anti-trafficking initiatives to improve outcomes for child and youth victims of human trafficking. Lived experience experts, individuals of color, indigenous people, LGBTQ individuals, and other communities that have been marginalized and disproportionately impacted by violence and abuse are encouraged to apply.

 

 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Human Trafficking Project Director in the coordination of activities associated with DVS anti-trafficking efforts including but not limited to, Improving Outcomes for Child and Youth Victims of Human Trafficking.
  • As directed, convene a multi-disciplinary statewide Advisory Committee (Committee) comprised of key stakeholders that have expertise in responding to the needs of trafficking victims.
  • Conduct coordination activities including scheduling multi-disciplinary meetings, preparing meeting minutes, collecting data, and compiling reports as needed.
  • Support the Human Trafficking Project Director in the coordination and facilitation of anti-trafficking training and technical assistance for organizations funded by the Division of Victim Services.
  • Conduct ongoing research to remain current on best and promising practices in the field of labor and sex trafficking.
  • Consult on the development of needs assessment and the creation of a statewide strategic plan to address gaps identified through needs assessment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of awareness campaign, with a special focus on reaching Tribal communities and those vulnerable to labor trafficking.
  • Participate in the development of a training plan in coordination with grant partners.
  • Consult on the development and implementation of data collection plan.
  • Participate in rating anti-trafficking request for proposals as needed.
  • Assist with data collection, data evaluation, and grant progress reports.
  • Serve as a technical advisor and liaison with community groups, and/or governmental agencies working on human trafficking issues within scope of responsibilities.
  • Establish, administer, and evaluate programs; recommend program policies and procedures; and design forms related to human trafficking initiatives.
  • Collect and maintain program data necessary to meet program reporting and evaluation requirements, and the goals of the agency.
  • Analyze ongoing program operations and recommend modifications of policies and procedures to meet commitments more effectively.
  • Evaluate documents and applications for possible inclusion in programs; determine eligibility or compatibility; determine acceptability of documents or applications and decide on the appropriate action(s) to take.
  • Recommend criteria, standards, and guidelines to assess agencies’ program structures and determine their compatibility with the objectives and priorities of the state. Interpret existing and proposed laws, policies, and procedures as they relate to a program area.
  • Consult with state, local, and federal government as well as interested parties in this regard.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

 
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, human/social services, or closely related field preferred, but may be substituted with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.

 

 
Experience: Extensive knowledge of labor and sex trafficking with a minimum of five years of experience working directly with victims of labor and sex trafficking. Must have expertise in providing anti-trafficking services that promote survivor autonomy, are victim-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally honoring. Experience working with child and youth victims of labor and sex trafficking preferred. Project management and/or coordination experience desired.
