Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion and is responsible for oversight and coordination of all administrative matters relating to the day-to-day activities of the DEI department. This includes responsibility for supporting projects across the department, ranging from communications and outreach to steering committees, assistance with internal coordination on issues affecting board members and support to the team on internal and external DEI activity.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for DEI department:
  • Provide preliminary contact for staff as needed, including scheduling meetings
  • Assist senior staff in scheduling and preparing information for board members and meetings including compiling information for board reports, etc.
  • Serve as the primary person for the following financial matters related to DEI department:
  • Ensure accurate booking of contracts
  • Process payments
  • Generate acknowledgement correspondence
  • Maintain invoice generation and tracking
  • Assist with monthly budget monitoring
  • Provide superior communication with external and internal DEI stakeholders.
  • Assist team with content development and communications with staff and volunteers
  • Coordinate messaging to steering committee and board members
  • Edit and refresh departmental materials and relevant web pages
  • Respond to inquiries in the DEI inbox
  • Answer and field incoming calls from steering committee and board members, volunteers, and partner organizations regarding DEI matters.
  • Coordinate with other HRC departments on internal and external DEI consultation and workshop requests and general communications

  • Research:
  • Conduct research on communities and organizations that are interested in partnering with HRC
  • Assist in creating materials, workshops and presentations

  • Events: Support and coordinate logistics for meetings, conferences, webinars, offsite meetings and events – specifically Board of Governors diversity and inclusion co-chairs, DEI Liaisons, Equality Convention, Equality Leaders, and community outreach programs

  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

  • Commitment to LGBTQ+ equality is required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and one to three years related experience.
  • Proven administrative proficiency and organizational skills
  • Foundational knowledge about racial and gender justice issues, and inclusion concepts like intersectionality required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency across multiple communities. Experience working within underrepresented/marginalized communities a plus.
  • Requires superior client-service skills.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, goal-driven and confirmed ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a positive attitude, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative environment.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, strong professional ethics and business acumen are required.
  • Ability to effectively work across a wide variety of constituency groups (including volunteers and donors) and organize support for goals and plans.
  • Exceptional time-management skills, work ethic and ability to work under tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Google Apps, Project and other applications, including web-based tools
  • This position requires a willingness, ability and flexibility to regularly work hours that vary from standard office hours, including weekends and evenings to support events and meetings.

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically.?Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
