JOB SUMMARY: This individual will design and plan initiatives to create and maintain a positive public image for the company in all community relations to expand awareness and support of GICO. This person is a key member of the executive leadership team and is involved in executing GICO’s strategic plan. The individual is responsible for strategic leadership, providing the necessary vision to implement a robust community engagement plan, and the ability to achieve targets for the organizational growth in

  • Implements a comprehensive communication strategy for reaching all audiences.
  • Develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communication,
  • Oversees all communications and events which interact with the public as well as advertising, marketing, social media/web, print communications and media.
  • Promotes the Goodwill brand within its varied geographic communities to enhance public awareness and understanding to engage community support of our mission.
  • Leads the development of new funding streams by an entrepreneurial approach to building and guiding a development program.
  • Responsible for prospect research, management, planning, direction, and implementation of all aspects of fundraising and engagement within the community. Fundraising activities include management of the annual development program including establishing and meeting annual operating budget targets, major and planned gifts, annual fund, events, foundation relations, major capital campaign, and volunteer engagement.
  • Cultivate relationships with prospective and existing donors to include foundations, corporations, associations, community service clubs and employees giving organizations to receive grants or raise giving levels.
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Community Engagement Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for procedures involving the receipt, recording, reporting, and acknowledgment of all charitable contributions to GICO and fundraising software to ensure accurateness and integrity of data entered and reporting.
  • Follows ethical and corporate compliance procedures.
  • Monitors emerging issues to keep abreast of public policy priorities and integrate advocacy throughout GICO.
  • Reviews and is familiar with Goodwill of Central Oklahoma safety policies, programs and procedures and adhere to all safety rules, regulations, and safety codes. Attends safety training and meetings and report any unsafe work conditions, accidents, or injuries immediately.


  • Performs other duties and projects as required by CEO.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to a high standard. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Demonstrated success in community connections, public presentations, and relationship building.
  • 5 or more years of leadership experience with significant responsibilities and supervisory experience.
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience in community engagement.
  • 4-year degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field, required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of fundraising success and demonstrated success in the acquisition and stewardship of all levels of supporters (volunteers, donors, and foundations.)
  • Capital campaign experience is preferred.
  • Must pass OSBI/DOC background check.
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and Car Insurance Verification, required.
  • Must pass MVR check and maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language. Ability to speak other languages is a plus.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents. Interpreting data and reviewing documents for accuracy is critical.

  • Ability to create a strong shared vision and develop buy-in with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out and solve situations with several variables.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to project, track, and report business results and execute data-driven decision making.
  • High level of attention to detail and follow through.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on several projects at once.
  • Strong time management skills and demonstrate adherence to priority setting in timelines/schedules.
  • Good interpersonal skills: able to work well with a wide range of people.
  • Build and maintain a network of relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to analyze, review, recommend and become proficient in fundraising software.
  • A sense of humor is a plus!

  • This work requires sitting at a desk, working at a computer, interactions with a wide variety of individuals outside the Goodwill offices. The following physical activities are required: frequent repetitive motions such as talking, listening, and visual acuity.
  • Occasional lifting to 15 pounds, or more with assistance.
  • Regular use of telephone and ability to effectively engage in public speaking.
  • Employee is required to operate a computer.


  • Works in a climate controlled, office environment much of the time with a good deal of work in the community and may occasionally work outdoors at an event. Travel required and overnight travel occasionally.
  • Low to moderate noise level.
  • Regular contact with internal staff, volunteers and external organizations, board members and the public.
  • Will attend a variety of special events that may include other environments.
  • Works 40 hours per week or more when required.
